Sonos SUB Mini

It very subetly sits in the background, but it adds so much when playing specific music genres (which may are played with 2 x teenagers in the house) or whilst watching sport/movies. Linked to a Playbase and 2 x Sonos 1 surrounds, it completes the 'sound' picture. Now debating the replacement of the Sonos Arc for the Playbase.... what do I do?!

Sonos ERA 100 + Rega Planar 1 Plus + Sonos ERA Line-In Adapter Bundle

The Rega is very good, simple easy to use, and is a nice turntable, I used the Sono ERA as a connection to the rest of my Sonos system, the Sonos app has become complicated and not so simple to use, but finally got it to work well, on its own the ERA is OK, but I suspect would be better just as a surround speaker, I use Play 5s and an Arc to which the turntable sounds very good

Sonos Sub 4

Originally bought it for the Arc gen 1 and the Sub 4 made a massive difference to bass and allowed the arc to improve in the mids and highs too. However, then I upgraded to the ultra and 80% of the time, I’m pretty sure that the ultra is handling the bass and doing it very well. The other 20% for deep, sustained rumbles, the Sub 4 certainly delivers. Buttt, quite an expensive addition for something that only performs and is necessary for 20% of the time (at most). So, if you have an arc, go for a sub (any gen). If you have an ultra, upgrade the rears before the sub. Anddd, if you already have a sub, then don’t bother getting the Sub 4, unless you need the matte finish (which in the white is barely noticeable from a distance but is probably a fair reason to upgrade if you want the black and have it in view). All that being said, great and very happy with it.

So far these are an absolute dream and exactly what i was looking for! I had pretty good earbuds before (the BeyerDynamic Free Byrds) but these are honestly next level. Such an incredible clarity of sound, great noise cancelling and multipoint connection - they honestly have made me enjoy music more again! Highly recommend if you are after premium earbuds. I cant comment on long lasting as only had these a couple of weeks so far, but so far cant fault them.

Sonos Beam

A great option for anyone with a current Sonos system. More impactful if paired with some surrounds (I have 2 Play Ones), and ideally a mini sub. Usual tepidation of getting it linked to the wifi (I used an ethernet cable) and then further anxiety making the the surrounds link properly to it (solved by the ethernet cable and a chat with Sonos support). This replaced an old Canton DM55, which I loved for its crispness and depth of sound. The Beam Gen 2 comes close and has more directional sound, but isn't quite as powerful. However, for an average sized living room (and neighbours to consider), the Beam does a decent job, particularly on speech. The Atmos effect and the sound in general are good and it brings movies to life. I don't think it's got much competition realistically. The app is the usual achilles heel of these things. There's the concern around how long it will be supported (for example, will my older Play Ones suddenly become incompatible?), and the app itself can be slow and not that intuitive. For example it's supposed to revert automatically to the TV sound if you turn the TV on while playing music through your phone, but it doesn't do that for me. Could be user error! Another wish-list item for the app would have the (very handy) night mode automatically turn off when you use the TV the next day. Or you can end up watching TV with duller sound before realising night mode is still on. Overall though, it's a well built, slick and satisfying all-rounder. The Arc would be great, but overkill for my room size and budget. Big shout out to Smart Home sounds who give fantastic service, put out good YouTube content and are honorable with their price matching.
